Introduction

FloatNative is a client application for accessing Floatplane content on iOS and tvOS devices. This privacy policy describes how FloatNative collects, uses, and protects your information.

Information We Collect

1. Authentication Information

To provide access to your Floatplane account, we collect and store:

  • Login Credentials: Your Floatplane username and password (only if you choose password login and enable auto re-login)
  • Session Tokens: Authentication cookies (sails.sid) obtained from Floatplane
  • Two-Factor Authentication Codes: Temporary codes for 2FA verification (not stored)
  • API Keys: FloatNative Companion API keys for enhanced features

2. User Profile Information

Retrieved from Floatplane servers when you log in:

  • User ID and username
  • Email address
  • Profile picture/avatar
  • Subscription information
  • Social media links (if provided in your Floatplane profile)

3. Usage and Viewing Data

  • Watch History: Stored locally on your device (up to 100 recent videos)
  • Video Progress: Playback position synced with Floatplane servers
  • Watch Later List: Stored on FloatNative Companion API
  • Custom Playlists: Stored on FloatNative Companion API
  • Likes and Comments: Interactions you make are sent to Floatplane servers

4. Device Information

  • User-Agent information identifying the app as FloatNative
  • Device information during QR code authentication
  • App preferences (theme, auto-login settings)

How We Use Your Information

Local Storage

  • iOS Keychain: Securely stores your credentials, session tokens, and API keys
  • UserDefaults: Stores app preferences, watch history, and non-sensitive settings
  • App Documents: Caches images and temporary data

Remote Services

We interact with two external services:

Floatplane API (www.floatplane.com)

  • Authentication and session management
  • Retrieving video content and metadata
  • Posting comments and engagement
  • Syncing watch progress

FloatNative Companion API (api.floatnative.coulterpeterson.com)

  • QR code authentication
  • Watch Later list management
  • Custom playlist storage
  • Enhanced LTT search functionality

Data Sharing

FloatNative does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your data is only shared with:

  1. Floatplane: Required to access your account and content
  2. FloatNative Companion API: Only if you use enhanced features (playlists, watch later, QR login)

We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security practices:

  • Credentials stored in iOS Keychain (hardware-backed encryption on supported devices)
  • HTTPS encryption for all network communications
  • Session tokens automatically refreshed to maintain security
  • Optional auto re-login can be disabled to prevent credential storage

Your Privacy Choices

You have control over your data:

  • Auto Re-login: Disable to prevent credential storage
  • Authentication Method: Choose between password, token, or QR code login
  • Data Deletion: Logging out removes stored credentials from your device
  • Watch History: Stored locally and automatically managed (100 item limit)

Third-Party Services

Floatplane

Your use of Floatplane content is subject to Floatplane’s own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. FloatNative acts as a client to access Floatplane’s services on your behalf.

Content Delivery

Video streaming is provided directly by Floatplane’s content delivery network. Floatplane may collect information about your viewing activity as per their privacy policy.

Children’s Privacy

FloatNative is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Access to Floatplane content requires an existing Floatplane account, which has its own age restrictions.

Data Retention

  • Credentials: Retained until you log out or disable auto re-login
  • Watch History: Limited to 100 most recent items, stored locally
  • Playlists/Watch Later: Retained on Companion API until you delete them
  • Session Tokens: Valid until expiration or logout

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the app version containing the update. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
